Bring the meeting of land and night sky into your space with The Cove Beneath the Core, a fine art print of the Milky Way above Lulworth Cove in Dorset. Combining the familiar coastline with the intricate glow of our galaxy, this image reveals clouds of hydrogen that add another layer of detail to the night sky.

Captured from the beach at around 1am, this image brings together 20 minutes of RGB exposure and 30 minutes of hydrogen-alpha data. Combining these captures reveals both the colours of the nightscape and the glowing hydrogen scattered through the Milky Way.

Although I’d photographed the Milky Way before, this was my first attempt at combining multiple data bands in a nightscape — something I’d wanted to try for a long time. After capturing the scene and making the five-hour drive home, I began bringing the image together. The result became my favourite nightscape I’d captured so far, and a reminder of why I keep heading out with a camera after dark.

Reproduced using 12-colour giclée fine art printing, the image combines rich colour with subtle tonal depth on smooth matte paper. A distinctive piece for astronomy enthusiasts, coastal landscape lovers and anyone drawn to the quiet beauty of a night beneath the stars.
